Serving God or Serving Man?
I've always been one of those who is willing to serve the Lord. In fact, I used to be one of those who you might say fit into the overachiever category. I had to be involved in everything and I was willing to help out in any way. But was I producing fruit? Something else I had to consider: Am I doing this solely to please God or is there pride where I wanted to look good to man as well?
I praise God. He has freed me from that, although I do catch myself at times being tempted to return to that lifestyle.
Jeremiah 29:11: "For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."
The Lord has a plan for each of us. The question is, am I following God's plan, my own plan, or one that someone else may be encouraging me to follow?
In Jeremiah 13:13 it states: "My people have planted wheat but are harvesting thorns. They have worn themselves out, but it has done them no good."
That was me. Organizing people to help out here. Leading people to help out there. Volunteering here, there and sometimes it felt like everywhere. The Lord allowed me to come to the point where I finally had to say STOP! Sure I was doing good things, but unless I am following God's path for me, there will not be the fruit that there could be. Besides, Satan would love it if I was too busy to consider the plan God has for me.
It is so easy for us to let that happen in our lives, in our families, in our churches, our ministries and even in our work. We become so busy that our time of seeking Him for His time and His will for us gets crowded out. We get busy thinking we need to do this, or this is a great idea, and leave God out. Sometimes we may even end up turning His plan into our own, and we lose the access to work by His power.
Are things going good for you or are they somewhat of a disaster? Take the time to ask the Lord, "What is Your plan for me? Am I on Your path? If not, where have I gotten of course?" Place your future in His hands.
